Functional Traits Mediate the Natural Enemy Response to Land Use at the Local Scale

چکیده
Arthropods are key nodes for the provision of ecosystem services such as pest control, but their response to land-use change is highly variable depending on scale analysis and natural enemies’ life histories. We evaluate effects landscape- local-scale variables communities small-scale agriculture. consider functional traits attain a mechanistic understanding effect changes biodiversity resilience communities. Predator parasitoid arthropods were collected from thirteen raspberry farms estimate diversity, complementarity, redundancy indices. found no landscape heterogeneity, local habitat, or management practices diversity. Regarding resilience, complementarity was high at most sites not affected by variables. However, two practices. Weed control decreased abundance well walker generalist predators flying specialist parasitoids, while habitat richness predators. These results highlight importance when matrix heterogeneous. conclude that agriculture in heterogeneous supports functionally diverse enemy community, potentially promoting change.

Integrate land and water use planning at the scale of the urban master plan
The survival of cities as living beings and their inhabitants depends on the supply of water. Numerous factors such as population growth, climate, drought, consumption pattern, amount of available water resources and utility network affect the equation of water supply and consumption. What has been less considered in the traditional planning process than ever before is the connection between la...
متن کاملLocal factors mediate the response of biodiversity to land use on two African mountains
Land-use change is the single biggest driver of biodiversity loss in the tropics. Biodiversity models can be useful tools to inform policymakers and conservationists of the likely response of species to anthropogenic pressures, including land-use change. However, such models generalize biodiversity responses across wide areas and many taxa, potentially missing important characteristics of parti...
متن کاملEffect of natural land covers on runoff and soil loss at the hill slope scale
Erosion plots were selected for characterizing the effects of main natural factors on runoff and soil loss in a semi-arid region. These erosion plots with an area of 40 m2 are located in the Kakhk experimental watershed in Gonabad County of Khorasan-e Razave Province in the north-eastern Iran. Data acquired from 2008 to 2015 include slope, aspect, soil texture and land covers (canopy...

15 صفحه اولOn the inconsistency of pollinator species traits for predicting either response to land-use change or functional contribution
Th e response and eff ect trait framework, if supported empirically, would provide for powerful and general predictions about how biodiversity loss leads to loss in ecosystem function. Th is framework proposes that species traits will explain how diff erent species respond to disturbance (i.e. response traits) as well as their contribution to ecosystem function (i.e. eff ect traits). However, p...
